A San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputy had to put down a dog Wednesday morning after it became aggressive toward him in Lockeford.

According to Sgt. M.P. Jones, a pack of three or four dogs trapped a man in his Toyota SUV around 9 a.m. When the sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene, one of the dogs became aggressive.

The deputy used pepper spray at first, but that didn’t stop the dog, resulting in his having to shoot the dog, which soon died of its injuries. The victim was able to leave the car and go inside the residence after Sheriff’s deputies removed the dogs from the scene.

More information was not yet available, said Public Information Officer Les Garcia, of the Sheriff’s Office.
