Lodi Fire Department promotes four firefighters

Has been with the Lodi Fire Department since 2006 and resides in
Turlock. Although the price of gas is starting to become an issue,
Mintz said he isn’t sure if he will continue to live in Turlock or
look for a place closer to work.
The Southern California native said the promotion will bring
“I’ll be driving an expensive machine that belongs to the
citizens,” he said.
His wife, Stefani Mintz, pinned his engineer’s badge on him.
The native of Pleasanton has been with the Lodi Fire Department
for three years. Pittman lives in Lodi and previously worked for
the California Fire District. Like Mintz and Walker, Pittman said
the added responsibility would be the biggest change to come with
“Things are going to change quite a bit,” he said. “I won’t be
riding backwards on the truck as a hose man anymore. I’m looking
forward to it.”
The Castro Valley native has been with the Lodi Fire Department
for nearly five years. The Lodi Fire Department is the only fire
agency he’s worked for. He enjoys outdoor activities in his free
time and said he’s looking forward to the challenges the promotion
“It’s going to be challenging but rewarding,” Walker said.
A graduate of Tokay High School in 1989, Stoddart started
working full-time for the Mokelumne Fire District in 1993. He was
promoted to captain in 1996 and then worked for the Linden Fire
Department. He joined the Lodi Fire Department in 2003 and worked
his way through the ranks of the department.

This biggest change that will come with the promotion, Stoddart
said, is the size of the crew he oversees.
“I was in charge of two people,” he said. “Now I’ll be
responsible for 15 to 18. It’s a learning position. There’s going
to be a first-year learning curve.”

Three Lodi firefighters earned a promotion to engineer and Gene
Stoddart was moved up from captain to battalion chief on Wednesday
morning at Carnegie Forum.
“Seeing people grow is one of the most enjoyable parts of my
job,” said Fire Chief Kevin Donnelly. “I’m also happy to finally
fill the ranks of engineer.”
