As four men, arms linked together, slowly move from side to side in a large grass ring, a single man from the opposing team stares them down, waiting for the right moment to strike.

In a flash the man makes contact with one of his four linked opponents and the clash begins.

After making contact, the man has 30 seconds to return to his team's half of the grass ring. The other does anything he can to prevent the return, often using body slams and other wrestling maneuvers to tie up his opponent.

The sport is Kabaddi, and thousands of Sikhs traveled from all over California and as far as Canada to watch and compete in this year's tournament at the Deshmesh Darbar Sikh Temple in Lodi on Sunday.

The all-day event also featured basketball, volleyball and a strong-man competition.

Last year's event was marred by a brawl that broke out during the final match of the evening, but this year's tournament was completed without incident.
