The two victims of Saturday night’s unsolved drive-by shooting are failing to cooperate with Lodi police, officers say, leaving few other leads for authorities to chase.

Brothers Christian and Joseph Hernandez were released from a nearby hospital Sunday. They suffered gunshot wounds when a passenger in a passing black mini-van fired at the two men standing in a front yard on the 300 block of Cypress Street on Saturday, Lodi Police Detective Carlos Fuentes said.

Lodi police spoke with the Hernandez brothers — both identified by police as documented gang members — on Monday, but neither provided police with any information, Fuentes said.

“We’re still investigating,” he said. “The victims aren’t being cooperative, so we don’t know if this was a rival gang. We don’t know what caused this. But we’re trying the best we can.”

There were no witnesses to the shooting, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, police said.

The brothers were taken to Kaiser Hospital in south Sacramento for non-life-threatening injuries following the shooting, Lodi Police Lt. David Griffin said.

Christian Hernandez was shot in the face and chest, while his brother was shot in the back, Griffin said.

The mini-van, described as either gray or gold, was believed to be last seen heading north on South Washington Street.

This was the second drive-by shooting to occur in less than a week on Lodi’s Eastside.

On Thursday around 2:15 a.m., three bullets struck a home on the 900 block of South Garfield Street, less than a mile from the location of Saturday’s shooting. No one was injured in that incident, and police don’t believe the shootings are related, Fuentes said.

Anyone with information about either shooting is encouraged to call the Lodi Police Department at 209-333-7035 or Lodi Crime Stoppers at 209-369-2746.
