McCaffrey Middle School is vying to win a grant of up to $50,000 from the Clorox Company to keep its school library open in 2013. It is the latest effort by the districtwide Save Our Libraries fundraising group founded after the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District shuttered all school libraries.
Through recent fundraising efforts, the libraries have been reopened — but only through mid-December.
You can vote online at powerabrightfuture.clorox.com. If McCaffrey wins, Save Our Libraries would be able to redirect additional library fundraising dollars to help other elementary school libraries stay open, according to organizer Leesa Klotz.
Lodi's Tokay High School is also among the nominees in the same grant program. They are seeking money to bring the school's libraries into the 21st Century, according to the website.
To participate in this fundraising contest, you can vote twice per day; once through the website and once by text message. To vote by text, send a message to 95248 and insert the school code, which can be found online for the respective program.
Voting will now begin on Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. Pacific time and go through Dec. 19.
