About $127,000 of your tax dollars and possibly more may soon be spent excavating wells in the Linden area searching for more murder victims.

The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors will discuss on Tuesday whether the county should contract with Drill Teach Drilling and Shoring to search for bodies. The remains of six people, including Cyndi Vanderheiden of Clements, have been found at seven crime scenes, according to a report by county Sheriff Steve Moore. Vanderheiden’s body was found this year, but she disappeared in November 1998.

The FBI, coordinating a multi-agency law enforcement effort to search for bodies, will reimburse the county 50 percent of the contract price, Moore said.

In other action Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors will:

  • Hear a report on the new prison health care center by Andrew Freeman, project manager of California Health Care Facilities -- Stockton.
  • Add parts of Lodi, Lockeford, Clements and Woodbridge to the county Enterprise Zone, a program that encourages businesses to locate in certain parts of the county.
  • Consider appointments to the Lodi and Thornton Community Center advisory boards. In Lodi, incumbents Delores Silva of west Lodi and Violet Nitschke of Galt have applied. In Thornton, incumbent Elizabeth Sanchez of Thornton applied for a new three-year term.

Tuesday’s board meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the board chambers, 44 N. San Joaquin St., sixth floor, Stockton.

County administrators--- please.----before you award a contract here---
Ask yourselves---Can our county employees do this job within the normal course of work projects they do? If not why not?
Lets just say--- this job is contracted out and the contractor finds nothing after the contracted period is completed---will the contract be extended? Will the search area be extended? What next?
I feel for the families who want and need closure and I sincerely hope they can understand there are limits to what the county can afford to do.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
