On Tuesday, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team arrested a man suspected of involvement in a Lodi kidnapping and carjacking that took place last month, according to a press release from the Lodi Police Department.
On Sept. 2, officers responded to the report of a kidnapping and carjacking on South Stockton Street, according to the press release.
When they reached the scene, the report said, officers met with family members who had been in contact with the victim by cellphone. They told officers that the suspects had released the victim in Galt.
The victim told officers that he has listed his vehicle for sale on Craigslist. He told officers that a man and a woman had come to see the vehicle and requested to take it for a test drive, according to the press release. The victim accompanied the pair on their test drive, but when he asked them to return to his home, they refused, the press release said.
At that point, according to the victim, one of the suspects produced a possible handgun, the release said. The victim was released in Galt, and the suspects fled in his vehicle, according to the press release.
Lodi detectives investigated the incident and believed one of the suspects was Richard Harvey, 51, of Sacramento, the press release said.
Harvey was taken into custody by Sacramento County officers and booked into Lodi Jail on suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping and conspiracy, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
