A well on the grounds of Live Oak Elementary School tested for an elevated level of nitrates this week, prompting the Lodi Unified School District to cut off water use and bring in bottled water for drinking and the school kitchen, but the wrong well was tested.

There are two wells on the property. One is for drinking water. The other is for irrigation, according to Art Hand, assistant superintendent of facilities and maintenance.

The testing company inadvertently tested the irrigation well and came up with the elevated levels. Additional tests revealed the nitrate levels in the drinking water well are perfectly safe.

The testing company will pay all of the costs associated with the error.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
