Members of Galt High School’s G-Tech Engineering Club have built a unique way to make smoothies.

Delrich Boyd, along with Natalie Lizana, Nick Werblun and other members of the club built a bicycle-powered blender to make drinks.

“We were sort of researching bike power,” said Debra Crane, engineering and technology instructor at Galt High. “We found a smoothie machine and like, oh, that ‘ah ha’ moment.”

The bicycle blender uses a belt drive and motor to generate electricity, which is then outputted to a standard socket through a 410-watt power converter.

“The hardest part was making a stand for the bike and something to hold all this,” said Werblun.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
