San Joaquin Delta College invites the public to the dedication of the Leo P. Burke Veteran Resource Center.

The new center is named to honor the late Burke, a World War II veteran and longtime Delta College trustee. He served 29 years on the board, including five terms as president.

He was also a champion of veteran’s affairs. In 2002, Burke was appointed by the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs to serve on the Advisory Committee of Cemeteries and Memorials.

The dedication will take place at 10 am. Saturday in the DeRicco Student Services Building.

The Leo P. Burke Veteran Resource Center is part of the Troops to College Initiative, which works to attract more veterans to public colleges by making them more veteran-friendly. The center provides computers, workshops, tutors, counseling, and a quiet study area for veterans to do homework and network with other veterans and volunteer staff.

Located in DeRicco 151, the Leo P. Burke Veteran Resource Center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the Veteran Resource Center at 209-954-5151, ext. 6151, or contact Tina Lent, Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Veteran Services, at 209-954-5151 ext. 6125.
