If everything proceeds smoothly, construction of Flag City’s second truck stop should begin in late April or early May, according to Rick Shuffield, real estate director for Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores.
Love’s got the green light on Tuesday afternoon to build the new truck stop northeast of Thornton Road and Highway 12 after the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors unanimously denied an appeal by Pilot-Flying J, located across the street from the Love’s site.

This is concerning the location of the new truck stop named Loves. With Love`s that makes three truck stops within a mile of each other. According to the poorly drawn map on page 10 of the LNS, Loves will be directly across from Flying J which is a very large truck stop. The map left out Burger King which is between Loves and Hwy. 12. The orginal Flag City is located south of Hwy. 12 and next too Rockies Cafe, and makes me wonder what the supervisors were thinking by OK`ing another truck stop. At the present time Flying J has 60% or more of the truck business as they have a fully staffed garage, truck wash along with plenty of parking, along with their own area to fill up.
