The Lockeford Community Services District is exploring what would be the best use for its 19th-century schoolhouse building and 14 acres of land that will be used for Lockeford's first park.

But the town's leaders differ on who should make those decisions.

As usual the same gum-bumpers come out whining about the Lockeford CSD getting the money from the County for the Old Lockeford Schoolhouse reovation project and the land for the community park. In case they haven't noticed the CSD is the only public entity that is sanctioned to operate the park and recreation facilities for the community of Lockeford.

The Board of Directors for the CSD have not made any decisions on how the old schoolhouse will be used after the renovation is done. As far as the park is concerned it has been discussed numerous times and the fact is no playing fields are needed in the park due to the fact the new Lockeford School provides all the playing fields (baseball, soccer, basketball & football) that the community needs to use.

As far as the CSD going to the community for input on any of this, may I remind Mr. Fowler and Mr. Marty that the CSD holds a public meeting every month on the second Thursday and the public is welcome to attend and voice their opinions on such matters. On a personal note neither Fowler or Marty have been seen at a CSD meeting in many moons.

In conclusion let me say I would be the first one to vote for, to let Tim Fowler and Bob Marty take over operation of the park and schoolhouse to see just how good a job they could do and let them put up with all the whiners in this town who think they could do a better job then the CSD.

That area needs a park that families can go to and play baseball/soccer or just have a good time at the park. As for renting out the building when ever you rent out any of the other area faclities you are reqiured to have insurance and are charged a hefty rental fee.
