Lodi's first baby of 2011 was born at 8:31 a.m. on New Year's Day at Lodi Memorial Hospital. Marc Nicolas Mata weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces when he was born and measured 19 inches. He is the son of Nicole and Marco Mata of Lodi.

"We were kind of shocked to hear that we were the first (of 2011)," the proud father said.

Marc is the couple's first child together, though Nicole Mata has two children from a previous marriage: Brandon Webb, 15, and Brianna Webb, 13.

Marco Mata said while relaxing in the hospital room on Sunday afternoon that young Marc seems to have his mom's smirks and gestures.

"He's a good boy," he said.

Nicole Mata works for Pacific Gas & Electric Co., while Marco Mata is employed as an engineer for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
