One person was hospitalized with minor injuries following a three-vehicle accident involving a big rig Monday.
A white pickup, driving east on Turner Road in the fast lane attempted to merge right but didn't spot a black Ford Focus driving alongside around 4 p.m., Lodi Police Officer Nick Rafiq said. The Ford Focus broadsided the pickup, which sent the pickup fishtailing toward a big rig stopped along Stockton Street at the intersection. The pickup struck the big rig, causing the steps to get into the cockpit to snap off, before coming to a stop.
The driver of the Ford Focus complained of minor injuries and was transported to Lodi Memorial Hospital, Rafiq said.
The driver of the big rig was also treated for minor injuries after falling on his face when he tried to step out of the big rig without realizing the steps were missing, Rafiq added.
Paramedics along with Lodi firefighters and police officer responded to the crash and closed Stockton Street between Donner Drive and Turner Road for about 30 minutes.
