Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has certainly won the hearts of conservative religious leaders in the Lodi area.

In fact, one Lodi pastor would like to see the Alaska governor be president right now.

T.L.: I did mean "sex ed" when addressing you. You didn't address my comments. You said, "You learn responsibility at home first." That is absolutely the ideal. As we all know, this is not an ideal world. Some people have children when they never wanted children and/or are bad parents. Then what? Do we all just allow these children to go down a bad road because they have irresponsible parents? Do we allow the teens to go uneducated, without sex ed, because they have lazy, irresponsible and/or bad parents? You need to remember that your children, and mine, will live in this world with the children of bad and ignorant parents. Should we not attempt to help these children early in life before they make everyone else's life miserable as well as their own?

Lodian: I said I did not take sex ED in high school. I wasn't stupid, have sex, get pregnant, or be extremely responsible if you are going to have sex. Pretty easy stuff. You are commenting on something you read incorrectly. Rape and incest are a very small percentage, and have nothing to do with teaching sex in school. Kids from bad homes have more problems than being taught abstinence. I will know when my child should know about things progressing with age, not some person I do not know or government system. Palin's daughter is taking responsibility. One way or another it is responsibility.

T.L: Palin's implication was that she sold the plane on e-bay. Besides, McCain said she "sold it" on e-bay. You said you didn't have sex in high school and had your first child at 40. Were you abstinent until age 4o? You said, "Never been pregnant before by choice." Some are not so lucky as to actually have that choice. Think beyond just yourself. Incest? Rape? You said, "You learn responsibility at home first." That is absolutely the ideal. As we all know, this is not an ideal world. Some people have children when they never wanted children and/or are bad parents. Then what? Do we all just allow these children to go down a bad road because they have irresponsible parents? You need to remember that your children and my children have to live in this world with the children of bad parents. Should we not attempt to help these children early in life before they make everyone elses life miserable as well as their own? Palin believes that teaching abstinence only to children. The best evidence that her views on sex education did not work is her now pregnant 17-year-old daughter.

Thank you T.L. Education and responsibility start AT HOME. Teachers are responsible for so much now with no support from parents. Starting with discipline, then abstinence, then creationism (or the opposite), then finally to math, english, or science. Parents need to start taking responsibility and communicate and educate their children at home. I wonder what Palin teaches her kids?!?

I cannot believe these are people from Lodi commenting. Here is some info: Palin said, "I put it on e-bay." She did not say she sold it on e-bay! I put things on e-bay that did not sell. Now see, she may very well have PUT it on e-bay as she said. Pay attention when people talk. Also, I never had sex ed in high school, guess what...just had my first child at 40. Never been pregnant before by choice. You learn responsibility at home first. Schools in my opinion should be the old saying reading, writing and arithmatic...concentrate on those things. Parents should teach the rest.

But McCain isn't the type of guy to listen to input from a female just a little over half his age; and I'm not in the habit of voting for a presidential candidate on the off-chance that he may die in office. For my part, I think I'll continue despising McCain, mourning for Fred Thompson, considering Bob Barr, and finding out a little about who the Constitution Party is running this year.

You seem to be missing the point, SBG. Palin's assertion that banning birth control and comprehensive sex education will result in "better" outcomes has been proven wrong by her own daughter. It is a fact that just saying "no" does not decrease the likelihood of a teenager having premarital sex--all the studies show this--and some of it is for the reasons you mention. STDs and teen pregnancies go up in every community where the schools adopt abstinence only sex education. Comprehensive sex education does not increase the likelihood that a teen will have premarital sex, it just reduces the number of unwanted pregnancies and risky behavior which lead to STDs when teenagers do have sex. Palin's philosophy works for no one--not even her own children. European teens have premarital sex at the same rate as American teens--the rate is about the same across the western world. But European children who have ready access to birth control and sex education have far fewer STDs and unplanned pregnancies.

It's interesting how many users believe that their kids always do as they are taught. I guess teens these days never rebel or want to be their own person. Palin's daughter made the mistake of having sex outside of marriage, but I think she handled her decisions about keeping the baby wisely. McCain/Palin have my vote.

I really am dying to hear her views. Before she was chosen as a VP contender I heard her call Hillary a "whining b&tch" and said if she cannot play with the big boys, she needs to get out of the game. From what I read, she is a tough cookie. Her hiding behind her same old speech is not good for her politically. I think the GOP GOBs are under estimating her.

Since Diebold will still be counting votes in San Joaquin County, the sad fact is, I seriously doubt if **anyone's** votes will count if they don't conform.I will be writing in Ron Paul's name. He is the best man for the job and he is the one who will get my vote. There are over a million people just like me all across the country who will be doing the same with the exception of the state of Louisiana. In Louisiana, they are working to put Ron Paul's name as a choice for president on the ballot in November. And something is in the works in Montana.

Was it really Africa?Biden born in Delaware; we're getting closer since that's pretty American. And Ron Paul born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a colonial town in one of the original 13 colonies; Pennsylvania where the colonial town of Philadelphia, home of the Liberty Bell, where the U.S. Constitution was written and the VERY FIRST capital of the United States.Hmmmmm.....no brainer for me.

I really would love to see all our kids fresh out of college work as community organizers or volunteers, to get a feel for what our communities really need and what our country is made of. I do love that part of Obama's plan to provide college to all. In return our youth could pay off their student loans by working in our communities.Palin's comment made fun of and tried to demean every volunteer out there serving our country. I think Bush Sr referred to them as our "thousand points of light."Pretty pathetic comment I think when we need all the volunteers we can get. I certainly hope she rethinks that comment. So far she has just repeated that same speech over and over with McCain at her side.

Palin believes doesn't believe sex ed should be taught in public schools. Outside of the easy joke one can make about her unmarried, underage, pregnant daughter with this, the serious side is that sex ed is no longer just a moral issue - it is a health issue. STDs and pregnancy in teens continue to be a problem. While abstinence is ideal, it unfortunately isn't the realty. Morally, I'd rather more young girls be informed about, have access to and use birth control to PREVENT pregnancy than them resorting to abortion.

I will chime in. What bothers me about Palin's positions on the abortion debate that she has stated she opposes it even in cases of rape and incest. I believe that decision should be between the victimized woman and her doctor, NOT the government. Palin believes Creationism, a theory based on religious doctrine, should be taught in PUBLIC schools. Since scientific methodology is the basis for geology, anthropology, physics, biology, etc. found in higher education I don't see how Creationism would be relevant in public school curriculum.

So you are saying that anyone who is in the circumstance of needing an abortion is an undesirable and terminating the pregnancy will prevent further contamination of our culture. Sounds a little like mid-20th-century Germany. Do you have a short little mustache and like to strut around in a military uniform? So you would gladly pay additional taxes for government funded abortions because it's cheaper than the welfare that you suspect the result of every unwanted prenancy to qualify for?I am pro-choice, but there is just so much wrong with your rant on every level. We need government provided abortion to help Darwin along. It all comes down to "survival of the fittest". As long as the offspring don't get old enough to reproduce, those genes will hit a cul de sac. Do not pass "GO", Do not collect 200 dollars". Its either that or give them ten hops to "GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL". A nice little Monopoly metaphor.

To Lodian: The subtext of the conversations is that McCain is an old man. If elected he will be the oldest newly elected President. Palin by law, is only a heartbeat away from the Presidency. I know who won't be telling McCain what to do. Mr. Haliburton himself lets us all know he is for number one. GW only has two skills, pretending he doesn't understand (it worked for Grandpa Reagan with his Alzheimers), his other skill is what he did in college. He is a cheerleader. Only he has been cheering Cheney, big oil, the banking establishment, illegal aliens and anyone else he thinks will helps his teammates. Many don't think he is very bright. Obama on the other hand is an opportunist, and will probably consult with Oprah, AIDS activists, Greenie's, and may possible start massaging the bankers to look "important" and keep them off his back -- just Like Pres Bill Clinton. PS: I think it would be great to have a REAL woman VICE PRESIDENT baking cookies in the White House! Its part of our DIVERSITY!

To shrubeater: You have a short memory. In 1933 the US Congress passed the Glass-Steagall act. One of the goals was to prevent investment banks from owning commercial banks and conversely commercial banks from owning investments banks. There were also provisions that attempted to keep insurance business separate from banking. There are many good reasons for this including preventing a development of a bank or investment trusts that were partially responsible for the 1929 banking crisis. The banking industry has been fighting Glass-Steagal for over thirty years. Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon and Reagan refused to sign any bill repealing this important law. Here comes President Clinton, he destroyed the work of Democrats AND REPUBLICAN Presidents who knew that repealing Glass-Stegall was a dangerous economic policy. Hillary was in the shadows chearing the bankers who made billions of profits. Here is a link to a news item from November 12, 1999. Read the NY Times, watch the news. OUR BANKING SYSEM IS CRUMBLING, and many knowledgeable people believe this housing disaster could have never happened if Glass-Steagall remained in force. No Bear-Stearns bailout was needed. The Clintons had their chance.

Palin's selection was designed to ignite a culture war, the only hope the GOP has for victory. No longer will the election be about the economy or foreign policy. Now, it will be cast as REAL Americans vs. the elites. YOu see, the GOP thinks the average American is just so stupid that they will fall for this lie. The GOP's tax policies and corporate welfare have created a class of super elites far, far separate from the average American (who struggles more every year.) Sarah Palin looks smart, but not "too smart". We don't want anyone who is too smart, they might join the reality based world where science is respected and torturing anyone is abhorant to basic human decency.

I'm just curious...since when did the republican party support anyone having an illegitimate child? The republican bent on "family values" has always been get married first and have a child second. So why are the Palins all of a sudden being embraced for a teen pregnancy? And lastly, while Palin is against abortion, she was also quoted saying that it was her daughter's "choice" to have the baby or not. Why does her daughter get a "choice," while the rest of the women in the nation might have to give up that choice if she's the new VP? This seems incredibly hypocritical to me.

Palin supports the AIP. Her husband was on the official member list of the AIP. They both attended the convention.Todd Palin was an official member listed with the AIP. Sarah Palin, when a candidate for Governor, appeared at the AIP Convention in 2006. Sarah Palin also sent a welcoming DVD message to the membership at the 2008 AIP statewide convention.--AIP websiteHere's the video of Sarah Palin addressing the AIP and wishing them well. http://www.akip.org/conv08.htmlWhat ever happened to "Country first" McCain/Palin?

Sarah Palin scares the crap out of me. Gloria Steinem said it best in the LA Times this past week: "Wrong woman, wrong time." Any woman who wants to set the rest of us women back 50 years is never going to get my vote. And that's her agenda with her outlook on everything from same-gender marriage to what should be taught in the public schools. I'm frankly surprised she didn't wear an apron to deliver that pitiful speech she gave.

Interesting headline. I was a Ron Paul supporter until Palin was selected as VP candidate. Palin, no matter what her politics, was able to dismantle, singlehandedly, a corrupt Alaskan "Good Ol Boys" in the Republican party. Even though she stood up to her own party, the people supported her. It doesn't matter what her party affiliation is, anyone who can identify and pursue corrupt insiders has my vote. She actually helped shut down a corrupt US senator. She needs to be applauded for that. I hope that if she is ever elected, she will invite Senator Hillary over to sample some of her chocolate chip cookies.

Anyone else here wondering why this candidate endorsement from God was not saved for the religion page? And the LNS has to ask why they are in financial trouble.

Here's a person that has been caught lying about selling a jet on eBay (and McCain said for a profit). Jet sold through broker for a lose. And the christians are ok with it as long as she didn't abort. I guess that's way I turned my back on the faith I grew up with long ago. --------GO LIONS-------
