To date, more than 20 Galt Joint Union Elementary School District teachers, administrators and board members have signed up to participate in a "Tip a Teacher" event to raise money to keep the district's school libraries open.
Currently, the Save Our School Libraries organization has raised more than $45,000 to reopen the libraries that were shuttered at the end of last school year. However, the funding runs out March 22.
The group needs only $16,000 more to keep libraries open until the end of this school year, according to chairwoman Leesa Klotz.
The "Tip a Teacher" event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. March 16 at Brewster's, 201 4th St., Galt. School leaders will volunteer as "celebrity" waiters, delivering food and drinks, with their tips donated to keep school libraries open.
