Ten downtown Galt properties may be removed from the city's list of historical sites if city council members agree Tuesday with reports that deemed them unworthy of that designation. The list has not been updated since the 1980s, according to Sandra Kiriu, community development director.

Next week's housekeeping process is part of the city's General Plan update for growth and planning through 2030.

Five properties that city staff are requesting council members remove since they no longer exist are: 318 and 352 5th St., 131 and 326 2nd St., and the southeast corner of 3rd and F streets. The sites are currently vacant.

The other five were designated historical by a consultant hired by the city, but after a review were deemed to have no major historic significance. They include: 416 B St., and 213, 215, 217 and 227 4th St.

Some of these buildings need to be removed to make room for a proposed downtown entertainment center.

A public hearing will be conducted before action taken at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

The Galt City Council meets at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers at City Hall, 380 Civic Drive, Galt.
