Two men police said were trying to steal a kayak were caught when officers found it in the back of one of their trucks on Thursday.

A six-foot fiberglass red kayak was stolen at 10:54 a.m. Thursday from an unsecured garage in Clements, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said Christopher Riddle, 27, and Rory Murray, 22, loaded the kayak into Riddle's 2002 GME Envoy.

Deputies later found the kayak still in the truck inside the back lift gate at 1100 block of W. Tokay Street in Lodi. The two men did not live at that address. The kayak was valued at $300.

Murray and Riddle were arrested for burglary and possession of stolen property.
