The Lodi Historical Society will hold a plaque ceremony commemorating the Hinode Building/Miyajima Store and Hotel on Saturday at 11 a.m. at 4 N. Main St.
The Hinode General Merchandise Store was the first business owned by Japanese pioneers to Lodi. It functioned as a meeting place where Lodi farmers could contract for Japanese farm labor and served as a boarding house for Japanese workers.
The event will feature several speakers including Brian Kanegawa, Lodi branch president of the Japanese American Citizen's League, Mayor JoAnne Mounce, Supervisor Ken Vogel and Congressman Jerry McNerney. Self-guided tours and light refreshments will be available after the ceremony.
