For Americans, the Fourth of July weekend is a time for fun, food, family and fireworks.

But for their pets, it’s a time of fear. Loud noises, big crowds and lots of traffic all contribute to dogs and cats breaking out of their homes and running like crazy to find somewhere safe. That means July 5 is the busiest day of the year for local animal shelters.
