One person was killed in a vehicle collision on Highway 12 near Interstate 5 at about 8:40 p.m. Friday night, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
According to the CHP report, a woman was driving a 2013 Chrysler east on Highway 12 east of Peatland Road at the time of the collision. A 2006 Scion was headed in the opposite direction. CHP investigators believe the Chrysler traveled into the westbound lane directly into the path of the Scion, leading to the collision.
The Scion continued north and overturned, coming to rest in an area of water alongside Highway 12, the CHP report said. The Scion’s driver was killed.
The driver of the Chrysler is being treated for injuries at a local hospital. The extent of the driver’s injuries is not yet known.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, according to the CHP report.
CHP officers are continuing to investigate the crash. It is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
No further information is known at this time.
