A man was arrested Sunday morning after threatening to kill a Lodi police officer, police said.

Jorge San Martin, whose age and residence was not available, threatened to kill police Cpl. Tim Fritz if he didn't leave the area, police said.

Officers responded to Mulberry Court at about 9:30 a.m. on a report that San Martin was yelling at neighbors while standing in the middle of the street, police Sgt. Fernando Martinez said. Fritz pepper-sprayed San Martin, but he still refused to get on the ground, so Fritz took San Martin down with a leg sweep, Martinez said.

San Martin was arrested on suspicion of threatening a peace officer and resisting arrest and taken into custody after being given first aid for the pepper spray, Martinez said.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
