A man was airlifted to an area hospital Sunday evening after being shot near an apartment complex on the 600 block of Wimbledon Drive.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. and is likely gang-related, said Officer Shad Canestrino of the Lodi Police Department.
As officers were questioning witnesses near the apartment complex and on the 2200 block of Scarborough Drive, another emergency call drew several units to a scene almost three miles away.
Officers believe a man was assaulted near the intersection of Garfield Street and Lodi Avenue around 9:40 p.m. There was also a report of a shot fired in the area, Canestrino said.
“Residents said the victim was bleeding from the head and asking people for a ride,” Canestrino said. “He (the victim) said he didn’t want the police to get involved.”
Blood was found on Garfield Street and the area was temporarily closed to traffic.
It is unclear if the incident is gang-related. Officers were still investigating and could not confirm or deny if the two events are related, Canestrino said.
No information on the shooting victim’s condition was available as of press time, nor was information on possible suspects.
