A former employee of a local fuel distributor was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing more than $317,000 from the company.
Michael Thomas Reid, 44, allegedly embezzled the money while working as corporate controller for Fuel Delivery Services Inc. from 2006 to January 2011, according to county Deputy District Attorney Stephen Taylor.
FDS is a subsidiary of Van De Pol Enterprises, which supplies fuel all over San Joaquin County, including Lodi. FDS is based out of Stockton.
According to court documents, Reid allegedly wrote checks from the company for at least $139,000, which he then cashed himself. Prosecutors also believe he used a company credit card to rack up more than $178,000 in charges. Taylor said Reid directed the accounting staff to record his transactions as truck repairs.
Reid surrendered to Stockton Police on Wednesday afternoon, and was booked into San Joaquin County Jail on $300,000 bail.
If convicted on all counts, Reid could serve up to five years in state prison. He is scheduled to appear in court today at 1:30 p.m.
A message left with FDS Wednesday was not returned.
