A Lodi dentist accused of groping his patients has retained a second attorney, so a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday was postponed.
Ahmed Bakr, 32, appeared Wednesday in the Lodi branch of San Joaquin County Superior Court with attorney Gregory Davenport, along with newly hired attorney Armando Villapudua.
Davenport requested more time in the case so that Villapudua can review evidence, and the hearing was rescheduled for Nov. 29.
Bakr has pleaded not guilty to 13 counts of sexual battery, including one felony. He remains jailed on $500,000 - an amount much higher than for typical charges.
A judge set that amount after prosecutors alleged that Bakr had his bags packed and was preparing to leave on a flight for his native Egypt when a bond agent arrived and arrested him.
Through his attorney, Bakr has denied that allegation.
Bakr was first arrested Oct. 1 when female patients told Lodi Police detectives that he had touched them inappropriately at Western Dental, 320 S. Cherokee Lane.
He has since been fired from the company.
