Here are the top graduating students for 2012 from Lodi High School:

Elizabeth Long

Rank: 1

GPA: 4.619

Parents: Dave and Linda Long

Post-grad plans: UC Berkeley, mechanical engineering

10-year plans: I plan to get my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in architecture. I also hope to study abroad.

Clubs and activities: Science Olympiad, track, CSF, cross country

Most memorable experience: My most memorable experience was when my Rube Goldberg Project won third place at the regional Science Olympiad competition last year.

Special thanks: I would like to thank my father for the many, many hours he’s spent helping me study or work on last minute projects.


Ethan Sprague

Rank: 2

GPA: 4.595

Parents: Gordon and Sharon Sprague

Post-grad plans: I will be studying mechanical engineering at UC Berkeley

10-year plans: I plan on going to graduate school after earning my B.S. in mechanical engineering and then starting my own company.

Clubs and Activities: Badminton, Science Olympiad, Boy Scouts Troop 199, St. Joachim Youth Group, cross-country, CSF, school play

Most memorable experience: Winning two medals at the state competitions for Science Olympiad in OPTICS! And experimental design.

Special thanks: I would like to thank my parents for their constant support and for expecting more of me than I expected of myself.


Jacob Dodd

Post-grad plans: UC San Diego, major: undeclared physical sciences

10-year plans: Graduate college and move on to grad school

Most memorable experience: The friends that I have made playing water polo and swimming and all the good times we’ve had.

Special thanks: Mom and dad for encouraging me to do my best.


Dipa Patel

Post-grad plans: I will be attending UC San Diego, major is biochemisty.

10-year plans: In ten years, I will have completed medical school and hope to have a career somewhere in the medical field.

Clubs and activities: CSF, Interact Club, Environmental Club, Science Olympiad, Lodi Youth Commission, TeenLead, Lodi Public Library Tutor, Speech and Debate

Most memorable experience: A memorable experience was during speech and debate overcoming taking to a large crowd and getting past my events.

Special thanks: I would like to thank my whole family for loving and supporting me. I especially want to thank my mom and sister for being there for me and comforting me when I needed it.


Carly Banks

Post-grad plans: Go to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to major in biological sciences, then study physical therapy at grad school.

10-year plans: Get my doctorate in physical therapy grad school, work in professional sports rehabilitation, and travel all over the world.

Clubs and activities: JV cross country, Varsity Water Polo, JV and varsity softball, CSF sealbearer


Joelle Sutherland

Post-grad plans: Attending CSU Long Beach to major in kinesiotherapy

10-year plans: To survive college and the several science courses I’ll be taking, and to become a pediatric physical therapist.

Clubs and activities: I’ve participated in CSF, Friday Night Live Club, and several other clubs, but I’m most active in Interact Club. I’m president of the club this year and I love it!

Most memorable experience: Watching Marceau break up the fight that literally rolled into her classroom junior year.

Special thanks: My whole family deserves thanks for encouraging me and putting up with my craziness these past four years.


Laura Weiderrich

Parents: James and Janice Weiderrich

Post-grad plans: I’ll be attending Delta College and will most likely be majoring in music education and English. I would like to become a middle or high school teacher.

10-year plans: Spend two years at Delta, transfer to a university (like the University of the Pacific) to complete my degrees, then get a job at a middle or high school.

Clubs and activities: CSF, track and field, San Joaquin County Honor Choir, RYLA

Most memorable experience: Going to Camp RYLA where I learned more about being a leader, communicating with others and living in the snow. I also got to meet other girls from all over the state.

Special thanks: I would thank my parents because without them I would not be the person I am today. They are the ones who showed me the importance of getting an education and pushed me to be the best I could possibly be.

Most memorable experience: Going on a mission trip to Mexico in June 2011 to build houses for impoverished families.

Special thanks: My parents for always reminding me of my goals and what I’m working toward.


Alexandra Guendert

Post-grad plans: I plan on attending the University of San Diego and majoring in biology and psychology.

10-year plans: I hope to one day open my own psychology/counseling office to offer counseling to those with addictions and disorders.

Clubs and activities: Christian Club, Interact Club, Friday Night Live Club, JV and Varsity basketball, TeenLead, and L.O.V.E. Church group.

Most memorable experience: All of high school has been memorable. I have made amazing friends these four years, and we have done amazing things.

Special thanks: I thank my parents for everything they have sacrificed and for everything they have done to ensure I have the best opportunities in life.


Andrew Watts

Parents: Keith and Sonya Watts

Post-grad plans: Attend USC, major in film production

10-year plans: Graduate college, begin working for the movie industry, start a family, buy a house, and have awesome adventures.

Clubs and activities: Water polo, swimming, CSF, drama club

Most memorable experience: Blocking a five meter penalty shot against St. Mary’s in the final 30 seconds of a tied game in Sections.

Special thanks: My mom. She’s always been there to support me in my studies and continues to support me as I move toward my college experience.


Kinsey Green

Post-grad plans: UCSD, visual arts (media) major

10-year plans: Make movies, make money, be happy.

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
