Skiers are smiling. The long-awaited rain that turned up on Friday means Kirkwood Mountain resort expects two to three feet of dense, wet snowfall over the weekend.
Mike Heath, vacation coordinator, said the resort's higher elevation, based at 7,800 feet, means any snow that falls will stick around. Despite the promising conditions, snowblowing machines will still be working overnight to mix Mother Nature's bounty with enough man made snow to keep the trails open.
