A late-night shooting at the Rancho Grande Motel resulted in few leads after suspects fled the scene.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Lodi police responded to the motel on South Cherokee Lane, where they found the front window of one room shot out and bullet casings inside the motel room.
However, it appeared that any victims or suspects had fled the scene following the shooting, according to Cpl. Dale Eubanks of the Lodi Police Department.
Eubanks said the renter of the room had also rented another room just down the way, and that drug paraphernalia had been found in both rooms. The renter was nowhere to be found when police arrived.
Police did not identify the renter.
Eubanks added that a gas mask was also found inside the room that had been shot at, but that it was unclear why exactly the shooting had occurred.
Eubanks said Lodi police had been stationed at Lodi Memorial Hospital to check if anyone came in with bullet wounds, but so far, none had.
As of press time, police were not sure if the incident was gang-related.
However, police did say that the motel was not known to have problems that were gang- or drug-related.
The only suspect information police currently had as of press time was that a small, blue car fled to Cherokee Lane and then in an unknown direction following the shooting.
