A program to train volunteer naturalists at Cosumnes River Preserve is being offered next month.

The preserve includes about 46,000 acres of flood plain and riparian habitat along the Cosumnes River near Galt. The land is owned and managed by seven partner organizations, including state and federal government agencies and nonprofits.

Volunteer naturalists are needed to lead public tours on area wildlife and habitats, flood plain function, cultural history and wildlife-friendly farming practices.

The training sessions will be held on Oct. 5 and Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, at the preserve visitor center, 13501 Franklin Blvd.

Participants must have a desire to lead walking tours, and educate adults and children about wildlife and the outdoors.

For more information, call the preserve at 916-870-4317 or email Amber Veselka at veselkaa@saccounty.net.
