Chris Piombo, who was promoted to captain of the Lodi Police Department in May, retired this week.

Piombo, a 25-year veteran officer, was responsible for patrol operations. He was one of two captains in the department.

A native of Stockton and graduate of University of California, Davis, Piombo joined the Lodi PD in 1988 as a police officer trainee and became an officer later that year. He was promoted to corporal in 1997, sergeant in 2000 and lieutenant in 2006.

Lodi Police Chief Mark Helms declined to comment on Wednesday when asked about the process to replace Piombo.
