Although a race T-shirt may not be guaranteed, registration is still open for Sunday’s Run Because You Can event, a 5K and 10K run or walk and kids’ fun runs presented by local nonprofit Runnin’ for Rhett.
The foundation was founded in 2007 in honor of Rhett Seevers. Rhett, a former Galt resident who passed away in 2004, was born with severe cerebral palsy. Although he could not run or jump, he inspired many people.
This year, the youth fitness program participants will be starting at the same time as the rest of the racers but will be corralled in a special area. This will allow the youth runners to experience the excitement of the start line, while allowing the adult racers their own space, according to race organizers.
The kids’ fun runs (1/2 and 1/4 mile for ages 11 and under) begin at 8 a.m., with the 5K run/walk and 10K run/walk and youth fitness starting at 8:40 a.m. at Crocker Park, at the corner of Third and N streets in Sacramento.
