Lodi police on Wednesday arrested a man wanted in connection with Lodi’s first homicide of the year.
Richard Vincent Welker, 33, is in custody on suspicion of shooting to death his roommate Arlie Druen, 33, around 7:45 p.m., Tuesday in the 700 block of South Central Avenue.
Welker is being held in San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
After sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, police said Druen was transported to Lodi Memorial Hospital and later pronounced dead.
Police are still investigating whether the shooting was accidental or intentional, Lodi Police Detective Mike Manetti said.
Neighbors interviewed Wednesday said they did not hear gunshots. But after paramedics arrived at the home, they said they heard a man shout, “Please save him, please save him.”
Police were still at the home Wednesday morning. Yellow caution tape surrounded the property, located not far from a church.
Wednesday, police arrested Aaron Jacob Garcia, 19, on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter, but he was later released and is no longer a suspect, Manetti said.
