Civil suit in Parminder Shergill case claims Lodi police lacked training, used excessive force

On the morning of Jan. 25, Parminder Singh Shergill was shot and killed by Lodi police officers who later reported he had confronted them with a knife.
The Shergill family has hired civil rights attorney Mark Merin to represent them, and on Thursday he filed a lawsuit in federal court against the city, Lodi Police Chief Mark Helms and the two officers who shot Shergill.
