Officials of local and rural fire districts reported no significant injuries, structure fires or brush fires associated with Monday's holiday. This year marked the first that private citizens in Lodi could purchase legal fireworks.
"It was nice and quiet," said Justin Porter, a firefighter at Lodi Fire Department's Station 1.
The areas covered by Liberty Rural County Fire Protection District, Cosumnes Fire District and Thornton Rural Fire District also received no significant calls, officials said.
Public outreach and good sense played a large role in Monday's safe holiday, said a spokeswoman for the Woodbridge Rural Fire Protection District.
"We've done a good job educating people about firework safety," said Susan Barfoot. "Plus, no one wants their home burned down."
