  Nice story and good move by all of the volunteers. The weather should cooperate.

  I make it a habit of picking up trash during my morning walks. Helps stretches the old muscles and also keeps the city just a little bit cleaner.

  I am thankful that anyone would give of their time to make things better... I think it is good to model for others how things should be... set an example for positive behavior... rather than sit on their porch watching others do what they should have done themselves.

  It sounds to me like the local Mormon churches in this area making an effort to clean up our public areas. I think Kevin is right. I do not think they are looking for public praise or recognition. They are looking for help. I think that the good lord would not look down on such an effort, and I feel that the passage you refer to speaks more to monetary giving. These folks are not boasting, in my opinion, but are trying to make things better for ALL people of Lodi and Galt. It is very sad that our parks get so messed up in the first place. It is a travesty that people are not teaching their children to respect public properties. Here in Galt, I am embarrassed by the graffiti that is plastered all over our local "nature trail". Many elderly people use that path on a daily basis and it breaks my heart that they have to see such blatant disrespect displayed. The city of Galt makes a gallant effort to keep cleaning it up, only to have it reappear the very next day. Maybe you should change your wording to say that you have a problem with this instead of "we"... I do not see anyone else complaining about the clean up being done.

  Robert, you may have missed it but the very first sentence of the article explains why your assessment is faulty. "The community is invited to participate in a massive park cleanup project on Saturday in Lodi and Galt."

  This is not bragging but rather a call to the community to come help for an event that has not happened yet.

  I'm not sure if the Mormon church contacted the press about this or the press just decided to do this story. However, if it's indeed the former than we have a problem.

  Because the bible says, pray and give in secret, and your father in heaven will reward you openly, otherwise you have your reward.
