Mosquitofish will be available for free from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at the Lodi Softball Complex, 401 N. Stockton St.

The San Joaquin Mosquito and Vector Control District will be distributing the fish in recognition of National Mosquito Awareness Week.

"Ideal places to use mosquitofish to prevent mosquito development are ornamental ponds, animal water troughs, and neglected swimming pools," said Aaron Devencenzi, a spokesman for the district.

Residents can receive a maximum of 15 fish and will be asked to provide a name, address and location where the fish will be placed. Only San Joaquin residents can receive the fish.

The county will also distribute fish at the following locations:

Wednesday

Ripon: 9 to 11 a.m., Ripon City Hall parking lot at 529 N. Wilma St.

Escalon: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Hogan Park parking lot at 1051 Escalon Ave.

Thursday

Manteca: 9 to 11:30 a.m., Manteca Senior Center parking lot (enter at 295 Cherry Lane).

Lathrop: 1 to 2 p.m., Manuel Valverde Park, 15557 Fifth St.
