Six cars stolen in one day

Lodi police investigated a flurry of car thefts on Wednesday, but almost all of them came to a happy ending.

In the 24 hours between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 4 p.m. Wednesday, six vehicles were reported stolen in Lodi, said Sgt. Mike Oden. As of Wednesday afternoon, five had been recovered through the joint efforts of the Lodi Police Department and the Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force.

Lodi officers were able to locate two cars, and called in Delta RATT on Wednesday morning to continue the investigations.

Officers located a third stolen car on the south alley of the 300 block of East Locust Street. Twenty minutes passed while police waited for someone to come out to the car so the suspected thieves could be identified. Two males were seen entering the car and driving it away.

Sgt. Fernando Martinez said that he attempted to pull the car over, but the driver evaded him.

The chase ended in a field near Curry and Sergeant roads in Victor, where the car became stuck in the mud. Suspects Eric Borja and Joshua Grinstead were arrested on auto theft charges.

Two more cars were recovered later in the day, but the investigation is still ongoing, Oden said.
