The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a woman who died in a crash along Highway 12 on Friday night.

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Destiny Schoonover of Sacramento.

Around 11:40 p.m., a 69-year-old woman identified as Jan Pinckney of Modesto, who was driving in the eastbound lane of Highway 12 near Peatland Road, drifted into the westbound lane and collided with Schoonover, who was driving a Scion, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.

Pinckney’s Chrysler came to rest blocking both lanes, while Schoonover’s Scion overturned and stopped in an area of water.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Officers are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs were a factor, according to the CHP.
