Lodi police and fire departments were called to a report of a stabbing Sunday, but it turned out to be a homeless man cutting his hand during an argument south of the Mokelumne River near Highway 99, according to Lodi Police Lt. Rick Griffin.
The man and his girlfriend, also a transient, were having an argument about cans they had in a shopping cart when the man cut his hand, either from a jagged edge of the shopping cart or from a screwdriver the girlfriend was holding, Griffin said.
Reports of a stabbing near the Mokelumne River at about 1:30 p.m. today turned out to be unfounded, according to a Lodi firefighter. Several police cars responded to a call of a stabbing along the south side of the river west of Highway, but they didn't believe anything. We will get the information confirmed by Lodi police as soon as police can be reached.
