As cameras flashed and friends and loved ones clapped Wednesday morning, four officers were officially welcomed to the Galt Police Department.
Two have been working since August and two started in December, but Wednesday was the day to publicly swear them in, Chief Loren Cattolico said.
The new officers are:
• Daniel Boehle, 32, of Acampo. He graduated from high school in San Mateo and joined the Daly City Police Department. After working there for three-and-a-half years, he left in 2002 and spent the last two years as an operating engineer in heavy equipment.
He and his brothers bought property near Galt and moved to the area. Boehle said he'd always wanted to go back to the law enforcement profession, and Galt hired him last year.
• Frank Fluty, 27, of Galt. He's one minute older than his twin brother, Larry, who was hired almost a year ago as a Lodi police officer.
He has six brothers, all of whom grew up in the Galt area, and he graduated from Galt High School in 2000. He worked for a time as a Galt firefighter, and said that introduced him to law enforcement.
Like his twin brother, Fluty went to work for the Amador County Sheriff's Department. He said he wanted to work closer to home and police the community where he and his wife of four years live.
• Jose Ramirez, 22, of Woodbridge. A Lodi High School graduate and nephew of a Lodi police detective, Ramirez said he always wanted to become a police officer. He tried majoring in business in college but found that he still wanted to work in law enforcement.
Ramirez joined the Galt force because he wanted to work in a small police department. He said he'd like the chance to be "proactive," rather than simply reacting by running from call to call all day in a big department.
• Jarrett Tonn, 27, of Galt. A graduate of Del Oro High School in Loomis, he knew about law enforcement because his father worked for years as a special agent for California's Department of Justice. However, Tonn knew he wanted to work patrol.
A close friend and fellow police academy graduate went to work in Galt and liked the job, and he encouraged Tonn to apply at the department.
