Lodi Unified School District takes novel approach to teaching reading, math: Video games

It’s a few minutes into fourth period in the Math 180 class for seventh-graders at Lodi Middle School. Teacher Mike Cazale tells half of the students to move from their desks to a row of HP laptops on the right side of the room.

They each plug in a set of blue headphones and open up “The Brain Arcade” to begin their daily video game assignment. The rest of the class listens to a lesson on fractions and common denominators.
