Someone broke into the UPtown Thrift store in Downtown Lodi and stole about $1,200 in cash from the safe at about 12:10 a.m. Saturday, according to thrift shop director Dan Randall.
Someone broke into the front door at 21 S. Sacramento St. and let two more people in the back door in an alley between Pine and Oak streets, Randall said.
The safe and a cash register were destroyed in the burglary, which was recorded on tape, he said.
That’s a lot of money for the thrift shop’s ministry, which focuses on serving the homeless, said Pastor Jason McEachron, of Gravity Church, which actively supports the thrift shop and ministry.
The thrift shop needs financial help to put new locks on the doors and purchase a new safe. A Lodi police officer also advised Randall to purchase an alarm to scare burglars away from the building. Lodi police didn’t return calls for comment on Monday.
