A judge struck down tenure and other job protections for California’s public school teachers as unconstitutional Tuesday, saying such laws harm students — especially poor and minority ones — by saddling them with bad teachers who are almost impossible to fire.

In a landmark decision that could influence the gathering debate over tenure across the country, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Rolf Treu cited the historic case of Brown v. Board of Education in ruling that students have a fundamental right to equal education.

LNS, you really need to do some homework. You may uncover that some LUSD board members PROTECT and REWARD teachers who are not performing, especially if they're friends of his. That man is a politician.

    I just retired from a school that served a 95% population of low-income students (measured by the free and reduced lunch program). We had a teaching staff of 100% highly qualified teachers! My door was always open to parents, administrators and the school board and all public school classrooms are available for the public to see, with precautions taken for security now days... As far as I know, my administrators were happy to bring people through to observe.
    All students DO deserve a fair and equal education under the law. Don't blame the teachers...they work hard. Look to the district and state for poor funding. Teachers don't CHOOSE their school. They are hired by the district for a teaching position. Look to the district for responsibly placing highly qualified teachers who care...Hold the districts accountable for who they hire and where they place teachers! Don't blame the teachers...!
