The Galt Horse Assisted Learning and Enrichment Program, or GALEP, will be beginning a new program year beginning next month.

A volunteer training session is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the GALEP Arena at McCaffrey Middle School, 997 Park Terrace Drive in Galt.

GALEP volunteers help children succeed as learners, leaders and riders through horsemanship experiences.

The organization is a member of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International. Certified instructors conduct the sessions with students, horses and volunteers.

The program began in 2009 and is supported through the ongoing efforts of volunteers, donations and grants. Since 2009, GALEP has served the children of Galt and surrounding areas with activities designed to encourage learning, fitness, confidence and character.

For more information, call Wendy Martin, program coordinator, at 916-798-6694 or email galep@galt.k12.ca.us. Visit the GALEP website at www.galep.org.
