Russ Munson has never been a politician. He’s spent many years as a successful Lodi businessman, establishing Wine & Roses — a hotel, restaurant and spa — as one of the first attractions during Lodi’s emergence in the agricultural tourism industry.

It’s that unique background that Munson says would allow him to bring a fresh set of ideas to the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors.

Valid question, I think. I also wonder if his running is related to the denial by the SJ County Planning Commission of Wine & Roses application to build a health spa back in late 2012? While not in this article/interview, Mr. Munson has said in the past that he thinks a priority for the Board should be to develop a new winery ordinance, one that would definitely benefit Wine & Roses desire to expand.

Is it proper for a developer to be a county supervisor? Seems like a conflict of interest.
