City of Galt settles sexual harassment suit for $600,000

The city of Galt has settled a sexual harassment lawsuit against a former employee for $600,000 rather than spend as much or perhaps more defending the suit at trial.
The plaintiff, Angela Long, claimed the city did not protect her from unwanted comments by a fellow employee, David Belser.

Ms Long stated...The city failed to follow their own policy and the man they fired was vulgar not only to me the female but to the males also, so much in fact that they all avoided working with him daily and that is how i got stuck with him...
I am very confused. If the people in question were simply jerks and treated men and women equally bad, why did the jury award anything based on sexual harassment. This sounds like a miscarriage of justice and the money sound be returned. If I were Ms Long, I would donate the award to a charity that handles real sexual harassment cases. This is not fair to anyone.
I would be very interested in clarification. If one goes simply by what Ms Long stated, sounds like the jury was duped.

The City Manager attitude and arrogance has no bounds. The fact that the city insurance is going to pay is not the issuse. Her supervisor, his manager,and the city Manager did not do thier job. And in thier mind's they didn't have to because at city council meeting our inept council keep telling them " we have the best staff ever, they are just geart, we counldn't do with out them!" The city manager down paly's this issuse like it is no big deal BUT IT IS!!!

Anyone see a pattern developing here? First the former head Park and Rec sues for age discrimination and now this. Someone isn't doing thier job. City Council needs to take a hard look at the City Manager, as apparently he cannot deal with these issues.

The City Manager will keep his job and get a raise and more staff."
