Galt high school district hires Sonia Lasyone as new chief business official

The Galt Joint Union High School District has hired a new chief business official from a Sacramento charter school to oversee its finances.

Sonia Lasyone, who started as the district's CBO on Wednesday after the school board unanimously approved the appointment the night before, will earn $112,721 annually.

She replaces former CBO Audrey Kilpatrick who left in November to become the new assistant superintendent for business and support services in a Placer County school district. Kilpatrick began working as Galt's chief business official in 2007, at one point serving as its interim superintendent.

The chief business official position is in charge of providing an annual district budget and overseeing major expenses and school bonds, among other things.

Lasyone last served as the chief business official at Gateway Community Charters, a Sacramento-based charter overseen by the Twin Rivers Unified School District.

She also previously worked for the Robla School District and Grant Joint Union High School, both in Sacramento.

Galt Superintendent Matthew Roberts said Lasyone comes highly recommended, with more than 20 years of school business experience throughout Sacramento County.

"Ms. Lasyone was chosen for her sharp knowledge of school business and her ability to work effectively on behalf of all students, staff and community," he said. "She has extensive experience working in a smaller district, and this I feel is a plus for the Galt high school district."

Lasyone was chosen from an applicant pool of 17 after the position was posted about two months ago, according to Roberts.

She was recommended by an interview panel, and after a thorough process was chosen as the finalist, he said.

Someone from the Sacramento County Office of Education has been filling in until a permanent replacement could be found.
