Despite last week’s misstep, the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District board once again chose John Gordon as president. In the role, he will lead the regular board meetings and act as the group’s spokesman.
Gordon was first elected to the school board in 2008 and was the top vote-getter. He served as board president in 2011, as well
Trustees chose among themselves to retain Susan Richardson as vice president. Both votes were unanimous, including the support of new trustee Grace Malson.
Last week’s meeting in which she was appointed as a provisional trustee to replace Jennifer Collier was challenged by fellow provisional candidate Pat Maple. He claimed the board violated the Brown Act when Gordon failed to allow resident Al Baldwin to speak at the conclusion of the public interviews on Dec. 8.
Gordon apologized for what he termed was a simple error, and the board chose to hold a new meeting last Wednesday to allow public comment. Malson still received the support of fellow trustees both remaining on the board and participating in her first meeting.
