A 79-year-old Galt man was killed in a crash between Dillard and Grant Line roads north of Galt Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Charles Conley was driving a Geo Metro in the left lane of northbound Highway 99 shortly before 2 p.m. when he rear-ended a white minivan, CHP spokesman Michael Bradley said. The minivan was then pushed into a red sedan in front of him. Conley died at the scene, Bradley said.

It didn't appear that Conley applied his brakes before crashing, Bradley said, and officers don't believe he was wearing a seatbelt. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office hadn't determined by Monday whether Conley died of injuries from the crash or if he had a medical condition such as a heart attack first, Bradley said.

The minivan contained two adults and one child who were not injured, Bradley said, while the red sedan had two adults and two children who were hospitalized after complaining of pain, he said.
