The San Joaquin County Planning Commission will consider a use permit application on Thursday for a church called Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon.

Plans call for the 9,000-square-foot Christian church and community center to be built on the north side of Eight Mile Road, east of Highway 99. The church is designed to serve the county's Lebanese community, with services to be conducted in the Aramaic language, according to land-use attorney Mike Hakeem, who is representing the applicant.

The San Joaquin Farm Bureau said it opposes the project because the church would be located close to farm land. Hakeem said the church would be built on a construction yard that went out of business in 2002.

The church would hold no more than 125 people, and an existing residence would be converted into an office.

Services would be held either from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturdays or from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays. Only one service would be held each weekend. No school or daycare is planned.

Thursday's meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the county Planning/Public Health Auditorium, 1601 E. Hazelton Ave., Stockton.
